Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi this morning I was taking a shower and my son flushed the toilet and it caused all the cold water to go to the toilet, steaming my shower. My husband opened the shower door and the cold air hit me and I began to get nauseous. He closed it and then a few seconds opened it again and the same thing occurred. He left and I tried to continue my shower. I started to rinse the conditioner out of my hair and I started getting really nauseous, dizzy and my chest felt constricted. I had to sit down in order to not pass out. My husband came and got me out of the shower, by this time I was weak and hyperventalating. My hands and forearms began to tingle and go numb. These seem to be symptoms of a panic attach but I have never had them before. I have been sick for the past 3 days. Should I be concerned? See a doctor?
I went through your details. I suggest you not to worry much. The given symptoms are not of panic attack. They are just due to your fear about something might happen. Don't confuse panic, panic attack and fear. Fear are present. The cold air made you nauseous, and that nausea kept you thinking and worrying. When that happened again, the thought (negative thought) made you worry about the nausea and your mind explained it as hyperventilation and the trouble begun. Fear towards something may go wrong, made you panic. This panic situation is not panic attack related to anxiety. Take it cool. Take some deep breaths and go for a long walk and you should be alright. Engage in activities. Don't think about that incident again and again.
You may need psychotherapy treatment if the condition did not improve. Please post a direct question to me in this website. Make sure that you include every minute details possible. I shall prescribe some psychotherapy techniques which should help you cure your condition.
Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications. Good luck.
