What Can Happen To A Patient If Orange Juice And Granulated Sugar Are Given Intravenously?
What can happen to a patient if orange juice and granulated sugar are given intravenosly instead of po? I know an RN who gave this via IV. Not sure of the amount that was given. What short-term/long-term effects can this have on a body? I could not find any research on this particular topic. Thanks for your reply.

The food as we know it is full of lot of things that may not be taken in. It is the job of the gastrointestinal tract to make sure that such things are excluded and only the things and components that the body can tolerate and needs are absorbed.
There may be many abnormalities that may develop. First the juice is mildly acidic. So when you take it iv, it may be very painful, and damage the blood vessels where it is taken. Then the other impurities may start affecting the systems.
Infections may occur because the bacteria and viruses get direct access to the blood. Allergic reactions can develop that may be difficult to control. Overall it is not recommended
I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.
