What Cause A Painful Hard Bruise Upon Carrying A Heavy Object?

I managed to break a vein in my left wrist while carrying a heavy wench off a trailer, it has been nearly 2 hours now and the side is still deep purple, roughly 2 1/2 around, very hard and I can t move my wrist or use my hand without pain which has now moved into the palm of my hand. Is this normal and what measures should I take

Hi,

I can understand your concerns.

Sometimes injury can lead to big bruises.

If the bruise is not growing in size then you need to apply ice packs to it.

Also you can take a pain killer to reduce the discomfort. Locally you can apply analgesic and anti inflammatory creams like ibuprofen jellies

But it will still take a week or two to resolve fully as body takes time to heal.

Do not apply bandage as it will compress and increase the pain.

But if the pain keeps growing then you might need to get an x ray to see if there is a fracture.

For the time being just try these healing measures and i think it will subside over time.

Regards,

Dr Biswas
