Hello,

I understand your concern. The pain in the back and shoulders that you are experiencing is referred pain and is indeed caused by the acid reflux. Sometimes the pain from one organ is felt in another part of the body due to nerve connection.
If you are not already taking anti-acid, I strongly recommend you to take Zantac 75 (Ranitidine) 2-3 times per day for 10 days. Besides anti-acids, making changes in your diet such as avoiding caffeine containing foods (chocolate) and drinks (tea and coffee), as well as acidic foods, is essential to restoring the balance and getting rid of the discomfort.
If Zantac does not provide the adequate relief, switching to Prilosec (Omeprazole) is the sensible thing to do.
Furthermore, prolonged exposure of the food pipe to stomach acid over time leads to changes in the inner lining of the food pipe which is the precursor to cancer.

Wishing you good health and all the best.
