What Cause Hyperventilation At Night?

I have been waking up hyperventilating in the middle of the night several times a week for the past three weeks. I use a paper bag and albuterol to get something under control. I am able to go right back to sleep so I do not believe it is a panic attack but I do have anxiety and bipolar and insomnia so I take medication for those things

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The fact that the shortness of breath occurs suddenly in the middle of the night, not associated with activity, would make an asthma attack requiring albuterol , not likely

Asthma attacks are usually provoked by a trigger.

Though it may not be typical for your panic attacks, it may be related.

Your doctor would be able to assess you to find the cause so that you can be appropriately treated

I hope this helps
