Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Cause Sudden Paraesthesia In The Legs And Upper Back?
Healthy life. On no prescriptions. HTLV positive result came from Red Cross 10 years ago. No follow up with MD. I have three areas of paresthesia that appeared suddenly and all three came within 6 months but at different times. One is on left lower leg, outer portion. Same area on right leg. Third area is a circular area mid upper back. No rash or color change on any area. Back area continually itches. None of these areas has improved or worsened from the day they started. Recent MD visit yielded MRI which shows A few non specific white matter signal changes without evidence of acute ischemic insult . The physician mentioned the possibility of M.S. when in the office. What should be the next plan of action or do I call this a part of aging (age 68)?
* The recurrent episodes of paresthesia over legs and upper back with history of Human T cell lymphoma virus may be
- damage to motor end plates with multiple sclerosis
- neurogenic disturbances in various nerve roots
- deficiency of trace elements as magnesium, zinc, copper and others
- side effects of certain medications
- others
* Next plan of action must be lab tests of presence of
@ particular antibodies in the blood
@ CSF analysis for oligocloncal bands of IgG and IgM
@ electromyography @ nerve conduction studies of various regions involved.
A neurologist is best person to guide in this regard onwards.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
