What Caused Swelling In The Area Where Blood Was Drawn?

my mother who is on coumadin for atrial fib had her blood drawn today. After the blood draw she noticed a clear sticky fluid seeping from the needle stick area. She now has a swollen area , non colored, around the puncture site about the size of a quarter. What has happened? Any reason for concern?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
It seems that due to blood thinning agent there might be possibility of having extravasation blood from punctured site.
Usually they advised to give more pressure on prick site to stop bleeding for some time.
Apply ice pack 2-3 times a day for 2-3 days.
Ok and take care.
