Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My friend s grandchild stopped breathing. The hospital said newborns have two flaps in the esophagus and one of them failed to open where she stopped breathing and lost consciousness. They diagnosed her with acid reflux. They gave her meds and sent her home. Is this true or should they get a second opinion?

It is true that the newborn have two flap in esophagus and broncial tube. For first two month the reflexes are not very active, sometime they fail to respond in such condition and eventually they become unconscious. In such condition, parents or guardian can give percussion on back and revive the child.
Hope my answer is informative to you. You thank you note is very much appreciated!
