Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m just turing 70. My afternoon bp has been peaking ( 135 -153 )slowly upward in the afternoon for the last year. Morning and evening close to 120/80. My family doctor put me on Lisinopril 5 mg. That has brought it down to between 100 & 110 in the mornings & evenings around 116-120. Today at 2 p.m 138/73 for some reason. During the period that he was monitoring by bp, I had a panic attack, first time ever. Would this have caused my bp to have increased. Obviously, there would seem to be another issue causing anxiety. I have been taking 50 mg of Zoloft for 2 months. It works, but there are times I feel unstable. I work out 3 times a week with weight training and cardio. In excellent shape. 5 7 & 145 lbs.
As per the details provided by you it seems like Lisinopril has helped you normalise the afternoon high bp as the reading of 138/73 is within normal limits of target blood pressure range. As you are taking antidepressants so you need to consult your psychiatrist for your anxiety. Anxiety itself is very well known to increase blood pressure. so I would like to suggest you to meet your psychiatrist and start doing some yoga/meditation to combat your anxiety.
Good Luck
