What Causes COPD And Anemia Along With Elevated Blood Pressure?

I have long-standing COPD, (Bronchiectasis and Athsma), mild anemia, moderately elevated blood pressure, and I had bypass surgery 6 years ago. I often suffer from pericarditis, but contary to what you might expect, I live a healthy lifestyle. This week, for the first time in about 3 years I suffered an attack of the rigors on two consecutive very cold nights, while dressing for bed. I have been under a lot of pressure due to my wife s hospitalization for surgery and have felt extremely exhausted. I am sure I don t have any infections. Can exhaustion be the sole cause? Are the attacks dangerous?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, the attack of shivering can be due to infection exposure and source previously like you mentioned was pericarditis so for reassurance an echocardiogram and EKG may be done. Cold exposure if had been cause would settled spontaneously when body is warmed. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be helpful for symptomatic relief. No need of antibiotics at this moment. Chest examination for any signs of infective exacerbation of COPD may be done if cough or sputum is experienced.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
