Hi,
DVT or
deep vein thrombosis is clotting of blood in the deep veins of the lower limb especially in those who are genetically predisposed or who remain in bed for long duration without changing their posture.
The presentation is acute unbearable pain especially in the calf muscles and swollen lower
limbs. If untreated, the problem progresses towards the hip and gradually involves the whole of the limb.
Sometimes, it is associated with
superficial thrombophlebitis. This presents with localised pain with
redness.
Superficial thrombophlebitis can also progress to DVT, that is the reason why your treating doctor might have prescribed you blood thinner medications. The best thing to know whether DVT is happening or not is doppler
ultrasound of lower limb. That will tell presence of any clot.
Also, sometimes there may be some effect of blood thinner medications on the bone and they may become weak and present as pain.
That may be seen on local X-ray of the body part and if suspicion is strong
MRI may be done. Therefore, it is advisable to visit to an ER and get yourself checked.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
