Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, get a HIV and STD check up every year and everything is always negative. I went this year and today I was told that I have HSV2 and my level was 5.00. I am so mad but I want to know if that could be false result. Never had an outbreak and I don t sleep around.
Hello! I have been through your question. Related your concern I think that HSV 2 level 5 is positive but having no symptoms doesn't mean for sure that is false positive. You should know that HSV 2 is usually the type that commonly causes genital herpes and the virus spreads through sexual contact and skin-to-skin contact and is very common and highly contagious, whether or not you have an open sore. Most people who've been infected with HSV 2 don't know they have the infection because they have no signs or symptoms or because their signs and symptoms are so mild. You can diagnose genital herpes based on a physical exam when you have symptoms and definitely from the results of certain laboratory tests (viral culture,PCR and blood test for HSV antibodies). What I suggest in this situation, to put your mind at rest is doing an western blot confirmatory test. I hope my answer help you.
