What Causes Klebsiella Oxytoca Bacterial Infection?
Hi i have recently had a chest infection and which started with a cold and very sore throat. Antibiotics were prescribed after a week of bed rest felt much better but still have a raspy throat not much voice. Sputum results came back as Klebsiella oxytoca bacterial infection. Would this have been from my throat as this is what is still a problem?
Klebsiella oxytoca is a gram negative bacterium mainly responsible for colitis and sepsis. These are present on mucosal surfaces which can transmit to lungs and can cause destructive changes. It can also cause gi tract and urinary tract infections. The infection commonly occurs as hospital acquired or when the body immunity is low. Proper antibiotic coverage is necessary as there is a chance of antibiotic resistance and viremia leading to septic shock. Cefotaxime, amikacin, moxifloxacin etc have a role to combat this infection.
