What Causes MRSA Infection Post Podiatric Surgery?

Two years ago I Had a hammer toe repaired at an outpatient facility. One week later I cultured positive for MRSA ..i am scheduled for another foot procedure and my doctor asked if he could swab my nose to see if i tested positive . He wanted to take every precaution and cover me with antibiotic if needed. The test came back positive. I am concerned about having another foot surgery....and how likely is it that I can infect my family!? How likely is it that I will have trouble with another infection every time I might have to have surgery?!
