What Causes Proteus Mirabilis Bacterial Infection?
I have been diagnosed with M. Proteus bacteria from multiple abscesses in my axilla. I was not told what this is, how it was contracted, if contagious, etc. I was prescribed cipro for 10 days. I am immunosuppressed and I am on leflunomide and rasuvo. Is this something bad? Should I see infectious disease specialist?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Proteus mirabilis is a common pathogen in abscesses and pus discharges. immunocompromised patients are more susceptible to it. No need to worry as it will respond well to antibiotics,. Get a pus culture done and choose appropriate antibiotics based on pus swab report. No need to see an infectious disease specialist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
