Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm a healthy 23 year old female with severe anxiety and TMJ. I've had a persistent swollen salivary (parotid) gland for six weeks. It has gotten smaller, and two doctors have told me I'm fine. I saw a new doctor today that told me I could have Sjogren's Syndrome and wants to be seen by a specialist. Does this sound right? I'm getting mixed information.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain swelling in salivary gland needs not to be necessarily due to Sjogrens Syndrome but in case if along with swollen Salivary Glands you also have classical symptoms of Sjogren's Syndrome like Dry mouth and dry eyes then it can be investigated for Sjogrens Syndrome.. Swelling in salivary gland can be due to Recurring infection also.. I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like detection of antibodies in blood, Salivary Gland Biopsy etc can help in diagnosis.. As of now do cool compresses over the gland.. If there is pain take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
