What Causes TSH Level Of 6.5mIU/ml During Pregnancy? Does It Affect The Baby?

Hi Doctor. My wife is detected with a TSH level of 6.5 mIU/ml wherein the range for 1st trimester is 0.3-4.5 mIU/ml and she is in her 11th week of pregnancy. I have 3 questions if you can please clarify: 1. Is it Hypothyroidism or Hyperthyroidism? 2. Is 6.5 at such an early stage be risky for the unborn baby or can medication make the situation under control? 3. She has just started her medication with Thyronorm 50. She is also a breast feeding mother. Will that affect the feeding baby?

hi thanks for writing to us
hypo or hyper thyroidism both diseases have their own consequences
another test called free t4 can accurately give the clinical picture
thyronnorm once started should be taken continuously
better always to have opinion of endocrinologist
definetly medication will bring the hormones to normal level
thyroid is a very essential hormone for initial brain development and many other systems
thyronorm is safe during breast feeding
hope this information was useful
