What Causes Ureaplasma While Suffering From Vaginal Infection And Meningitis?

Hi, this is more a general curiosity questions than anything else: I recently tested positive for Ureaplasma, which my doctor recommended I treat even though I haven t had any symptoms lately. It did get me thinking, however, that my last long term relationship (which ended over 7 years ago) did include several recurring vaginal infections. About 3 years ago I also came down with meningitis for no reason I can fathom (I wasn t living in close quarters and hadn t traveled anywhere). So I m now wondering if it s possible either or both of these things could be related to contracting Ureaplasma?

Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the ureplasma is considered as one of the smallest free living organisms, not even able to see with routine microscope.

* The usual mode of transmission is sexual relationship from infected mother to fetus during birth process.

* However, a minor number of patients ( as you ) do have ureaplasma infection even in absence of vaginal intercourse.

* The pathophysiology behind this is ureaplasma is among normal physiologic flora system of vagina and harmless in minor quantity. It is some sort of immune suppression or loss of vaginal pH homeostasis which may make this microbiome grow and show up in report.

* Though there are no symptoms, it is mandatory to get it treated as
per guidance of your doc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
