What Causes A Aortic Aneurysm That Is Around 3.5 And Upto 4.3?
I have an aortic aneurysm that was 3.5 for a very long time. Now within a few sort weeks it went from 3.5 to 3.9 and now to 4.3. I have pain and hardness in my lower right abdomen and have to sit up on the side of the bed to burp a lot after I lay down to go to sleep. I have very advanced vascular disease all over my body. I see my vascular on 4/22/14. what is your opinion?
I would explain that atherosclerosis is the main cause of aneurysms. It causes chronic damage to the vessel walls, leading to aneurysmatic dilation.
Coming to this point the main treatment in the first stages (when surgery is not indicated) in to control risk factors such as dyslipidemia, high blood pressure, diabetes, avoid smoking and alcohol intake.
In the more advanced stages surgery is the best treatment option.
I recommend performing an angio CT scan of the aorta in order to have a better evaluation of your aorta and its dimensions.
You should discuss with the vascular surgeon or physician on the above issues.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Dr. Iliri
