What Causes A Black Hole On The Gum?

MTwo years ago I had my top teeth pulled and received dentures. 2 days ago my cheek started to swell so I began taking cephalexin. Tonight it s tripled in size and very painful. However it hurt on my gums, not a tooth. So when I checked my gums I saw a black hole in too gums. Sort of resembled a scab. Any idea what it is and should I see someone right away?

Hi,

Well your explanation is pointing towards any over retained root piece that is accidentally left during tooth extraction. Many a times such root pieces can erupt towards the surface and due to infection there can be pain and swelling. But for a confirmation a clinical examination and an x ray has to be done. So once consult a Dentist and get checked, get an x ray done to rule out the cause. For now take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen for relief. But do not delay and consult a dentist soon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
