Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I was wondering what the black dot between my gum and tooth is. I recently had my braces put on, and the one tooth with the black spot between it and my gums. I've taken great care of my teeth. I don't know what it is, it's also recently appeared.
As per your complain a black spot between tooth and gums can be either a CAVITY on the tooth or it can be a STAINING on the tooth or a hard deposit known as CALCULUS.
These are the most common reasons for the occurrence of black spot on the tooth.
Most commonly before putting the braces on, the dentist always examines the entire mouth of patient including teeth and soft tissues and corrects if any infection or deposits are found on the teeth or if any infection is found in gums or anywhere in the mouth.
It may be a missed out cavity or a left out deposit on the tooth or it may be just some food particle impacted if it is exactly in between the tooth and not on a particular tooth.
I would suggest you to consult your dentist and get evaluated so that the required treatment can be carried out as any infection on the tooth or gums can lead to hindrance in your orthodontic treatment.
Hope your query is solved..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
