What Causes A Blister In The Throat Post Tonsillectomy?

About 5 weeks ago I had a tonsillectomy. Today I thought I would look at my throat with a light to check on it and I noticed on the left side where the tonsil was, is a small and clear colored blister, about half the size of a Qtip. Any ideas as to what this is?

Hello,

Thanks for Writing to Health Care Magic and putting trust in us regarding your Health related query.
I am Dr. Saleha and I have read your message in detail, I understand your concern and will try to help you in this.

When tonsils are removed from the tonsiller grove in the throat, it takes some times for the mucosa(internal soft covering of throat) to form and cover up the depression created at the place from where the tonsil was removed.
In this time there can be some fluid collection underneath the mucosa which can show it self as a blister. This is exactly what seems to have happened in your case this is a mucosal covering which has got fluid collection under it, this will get better itself with time. You don't have to touch it or pop it. Just keep taking if any medications are prescribed and eat simple foods don't eat too hot or too cold food everything should be fine real soon.

Your tonsils seem to be healing up nicely without any signs of problem and complication , there does not seem to any point to worry.

I hope this answers your question. If you have more questions, I am happy to answer.
Wish you lasting health.

Regards.

Dr.Saleha Saeed.
