What Causes A Blood Blister On The Lower Thigh?

I have a blood blister which appeared on a mole on my lower thigh. I noticed it became itchy a few days ago and today I noticed a blood blister and the mole is tender and has raised slightly. I do not remember knocking or scraping the area. Any advice please?

Hello,

Blood blisters can get formed when the skin gets pinched but does not break open. It may occur because of allergies, bleeding disorders, nutritional deficiencies or alcohol use. After the blister gets squeezed out you can apply antibiotic ointment & keep it loosely covered with a sterile bandage or gauze. Never pop or scratch the blister, do not peel the skin over the blister. Protect it from further friction or infection. Blood blisters generally heal on their own.

Sometime, there may be a recurrence when you may need to go through certain investigations to rule out skin cancers or melanoma.
