What Causes A Bruise On The Forehead Of A Child?

Hello doctor, Since Wednesday,my son who is 3 years old.Has been doing what started off as small half yawns, and it looks like little gasps for air now. On Sunday the 3rd July,he fell and band his head hard on the slide. It resulted in him having a bruise on his forehead and a cut on his nose.I did all the checks i.e dizziness, being sick, drowsiness etc but he was okay. I took him to my doctor on Thursday and he said he seems fine.He also doesn t believe the bang on the head was connected. Unfortunately I m not convinced, somethings wrong but I just don t know what. Is there anything you can suggest it might be or what I can do. Many thanks Angela

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what your son had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, if bruise wasn't caused by the fall, it needs to be worked up, if its caused by trivial traumas it also should be evaluated by a clotting profile as well as blood counts to look for platelets.

If no loss of consciousness or no focal neurological deficit is present, less likely to be an internal injury to brain however gasping for air should be evaluated.

On hospital visit, his chest should be auscultated and oxygen saturation may be seen to look for any oxygen-related issues. Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be used for inflammation or pain if any post-trauma.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
