What Causes A Bump On The Head When Diagnosed With Neurofibroma?

My husband had bump behind his head and recently saw a doctor and removed what is diagnosis of NEUROFIBROMA. Per specimen lableled it consists of several, somewhat nodular, irregualr glistening yellow-brown tissue fragments measureing 3.4 x3.0x1.5 cm in aggregate. Should I be concern? Or need second opinion? your thoughts appreciated. Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Neurofibromas are growths that originate from the nervous system. They start from areas of the nerve.

Some do not cause a problem but in other persons the neurofibromas can transform to cancer so it is good that he had it removed.

He may not have any further lesions developing but unfortunately this cannot be predicted.
He would need to monitor his skin for changes.

There are some persons who have wide spread neurofibromas in a disease called neurofibromatosis.

I hope this helps
