Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was playing football and I jumped up to deflect a pass and I landed and felt a burning in my knee. I couldnt put pressure on it at first. It s been a little over a week and I ve been practicing but it s starting to hurt when I put pressure on it. It hurts on the outside of my knee, like where my right hand is when I stand up straight with my arms down. It also hurts if I take my hand and it the part of my knee where I described. Do you know what could have happened?
Burning sensation & pain in the knee after an injury is commonly due to the inflammation of the patellar tendon, ligament tear or an overuse injury, sometimes due to fracture.
Keep the knee in rest, take pain killers like Combiflam (Paracetamol & Ibuprofen). You can use ice to reduce the swelling. Get physically examined you should have an X-Ray done to rule out fracture or hair-line cracks. You may need a patellar stabilizing knee brace with moderate support or a tape for your knee. Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
