What Causes A Dark Mark On The Corner Of The Mouth Of A Child?
my son (9yrs old) has had this dark mark on the corner of his mouth for a few months. I thought it was just dry skin. It started getting worse a week days ago and another dark mark has appeared on the middle of his bottom lip. Also the original mark has become red and bumpy. I have been putting on hydrocortisone cream. Do you know what this could be from?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of dark mark on the corner of the mouth and after that on lips which seems to be due to cold sores and dehydration which are caused by the herpes simplex virus and usually clear up without treatment within 7 to 10 days. Need not to worry. Avoid excessive sun exposure. Avoid excessive touching and scratching area. You should use antiviral creams and apply betadine with cotton swab on affected area. Drink plenty of water. If condition doesn't get better in 10 days then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs like famciclovir .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
