Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is it possible to dent your knee cap? I m a 53 yr old and fell on a concrete sidewalk several days ago. My knee hit hard on an uneven recessed manhole cover. I ve been so focused on my sprained ankle (other leg) that I hadn t noticed til this evening what feels like a groove running across my kneecap! It does not appear very bruised and it s not swollen but it is very tender to the touch.
The dent across the knee joint indicates alteration in the structural arrangements of anatomy around knee joint. The most common issue is of stretching of underlying ligaments in certain directions, which can pull the overlying tissue structures. Formation of internal hematoma inside the muscle may add upon this process. However, a clinical examination with range of motion evaluation, X-ray of the knee joint with or without an MRI may be need of time as per the clinician concern.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
