Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a partial thyroidectomy in 2011 due to enlarged nodules and it all went well. In the recent months I have been having a feeling of fullness in my throat at the location, also feeling of lump inside and outside. I recently had a ultrasound on it and they say it is slightly enlarged, is this common after this type of surgery?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of feeling of fullness in the throat . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like sore throat (viral or bacterial), post nasal drip, sinusitis or granular pharyngitis . Sometimes condition like acid reflux can also become the reason for fullness . I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day , keep your head elevated while sleeping , avoid eating spicy and heavy food , reduce intake of dairy products and avoid smoking . Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like swab test , viral culture test , CT scan and physical examination with laryngoscope . Doctor may prescribe antibacterial or anti viral depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants , diphenhydramine and expectorants . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for acid reflux who may prescribe Proton Pump Inhibitors like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole. Take antacids like Milk of magnesia.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
