Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i feel like a mild electric shock sometimes (atleast 3 to 4 times a day) when i touch any object or a person. This is happening from the last few days may be 1 week. I never faced such type of sensations and now we r planning for the kids. Is this a symptom of pregnancy or any thing else?
Hi, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM. Abnormal nerve stimulation response produces electric shock like feeling. The reason may be a carpal tunnel syndrome, or any neuralgia, even brachial plexopathy. Electrophysiologic studies including EMG, NCS should be done to rule out any abnormality. Myoclonic jerks should also be ruled out, although they occur commonly just after waking up. EEG and MRI of brain and spine may also be needed. Regarding pregnancy, I don't think this can be a symptom of that. But, pregnancy may aggravate carpal tunnel syndrome, though having CTS is not a contraindication of pregnancy. Please consult a neurologist for further evaluation and management. Whether you can be managed conservatively or with surgery will be decided after further evaluation. For any further information, please write back to us. Regards. Dr. Kaushik
