I ve had a mucoid cyst on my toe for several years. My dermatologist excised the demon, and showed me how she did it when she did it, also advising that it was probably caused by repetitive trauma to my toe, and that it may well return...which it did. Every few weeks, it begins to feel tender and get bigger, looking a lot like a nasty blister... so I gently apply pressure and out pops the clear jelly-like little round ball. It feels good to relieve that pressure, much like clearing a splinter from an irritated area on the skin. But, it always comes back. I am 61 and in excellent health. I am at an ideal weight and exercise regularly. When this cyst formed, I was speed-walking 1 to 1-1/2 hours seven days per week for about three years. I wear shoes prescribed by my orthopedic surgeon, (Asics gel 2000 s) and replace them regularly. Because of a torn meniscus in my knee, I have been reducing my speed-walking to only 10-20 minutes per day, but i do all of the yard and housework, which is substantial at this time of year, so my weight has still managed to decrease somewhat. I also have a great treadmill, which I could use, but generally save it for bad weather days only, since I d much rather exercise outdoors. I do not want surgery. If I wear flip-flops to speed-walk, since I have decreased the laps so much, or walk bare-footed on my treadmill, would that possibly help this pesky cyst to go away? My assumption is that my shoe must be causing the repetitive trauma. Nothing else makes sense... Thank you.
