Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my gums feel gritty like they have a plaque layer over them. I brushed them (under lip, gums lining teeth, under tongue ect.) It seems to help but I can't reach a lot of the place that have it. My mouth doesn't seem dry at all. what would that be from?
As per your complain gritty feeling of gums with a feeling of plaque over it can be due to a calcified layer of plaque which gets deposited over teeth and slowly invades gums and the gums gets recessed and the calculus takes its place.
The layer creates gritty feeling as well as it needs to be removed to avoid further infection and accumulation of plaque and calculus but it cannot be done using a toothbrush and you need to consult a dentist and he will clean it using a small machine known as Scaler.
I would suggest you to consult a dentist to get evaluated for what is causing you the problem..
Mostly gritty feeling occurs in case of dry mouth and burning mouth syndrome but if you do not have dry mouth and any other symptoms like burning sensation in mouth and dryness of mouth it can be simply due to deposits on teeth causing gum infection..
Hope your query is solved..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
