Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Hard Knot On Shin Bone Right Above The Injury?
A week and a half ago I got hit (hard) with a line drive to my shin. Of course it swelled immediately but I still had to play for 3 more games that day and did not get to ice it right away. It is more sore now than the day after it happened. My leg has an indentation where the ball hit but has a hard knot on shin bone right above the impact spot. And is numb yet painful at the same time when touched. It is still almost black all the way around my leg. I have not been to the Dr but I am beginning to think more is wrong than I thought. It is sore when walking but I still have full ROM. Any thoughts
The knot you have described could be a collection of blood (hematoma) under the skin. If it is hematoma, then it would take a long time to get absorbed (may be a month or 2). I would advise you to get an X-ray to rule out if there is any minor fracture or chipping of bone over the injured area. If the X-ray doesn't show any bony injury and the knot doesn't get resolved in a few months time, you can seek a surgical intervention to get it removed surgically also.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
