Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 69 and have had a lot of mucas in my throat, noticed that my right tonsil has a small round lump on it, no sore throat or swollen glans. Just getting over a bad head and chest cold.have had the feeling of mucas for several months . Do you think its something serious?
Hello, There is a good chance that this is related to inflammation as a result of your recent illness. Factors to consider are your medical history and exposure to known irritants. A history of acid reflux or sinus allergies with post nasal drip expose the throat to constant irritation that can cause production of excess mucous. Habits such as smoking and alcohol use are considered higher risk activities for medical disorders. Conditions such as polyp, growth or tumor are a possibility. Abrupt changes, increased pain or persistence indicates urgency for this to be evaluated. Take some anti-inflammatory medication such as Tylenol or Motrin to reduce swelling. Keep well hydrated. Rinsing with warm salt water can soothe your throat while healing. The tonsils are a first line of defense. Chronic tonsillitis can require additional treatment and possible removal. Consult with your doctor to confirm a diagnosis. Bacterial infections may require an antibiotic prescription. Thank you for your inquiry. I hope that you feel better soon.
