What Causes A Hard Lump Post Treatment For Tooth Abscess?
hi. I got an abscess on a lower tooth last week. I went to a dental access centre and they gave me 5 days of amoxicillin and some other tablets that I cannot remember the name of. Sorry. I had to take these 2 types of tablet 3 times a day. The swelling has gone down. Yay. But now I'm left with a hard lump where the swelling was. It's gotten smaller. Do I need more antibiotics to make it go away before the tooth is extracted? Thank you for your help
As per your complain the hard lump that occurs in case of dental abscess is due to inflammation..
It is an inflammatory swelling and it gets reduced gradually as the infection reduces after taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkillers like advil..
In case you have so deeply infected tooth that it led to formation of dental abscess only medicines is not enough..
You need to either get the tooth removed or if it can be saved you need to get ROOT CANAL TREATMENT done in which the entire tooth along with the root canals is cleaned, shaped and when the pain and swelling completely subsides filling is done..
You should consult your dentist and discuss and get treated accordingly..
Hope your query is solved..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
