What Causes A Hard Spot On Cheek After Molar Extraction?
I had a molar extracted 7 days ago. I don't really have pain and I have been on preventative penicillin. I have a very hard spot on my cheek that will not go away. Should I be concerned. BTW I am out of the country on vacation or I would call my dentist
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain a hard swelling after extraction of the tooth is mostly due to inflammation of the soft tissues due to trauma to the tissues during extraction and you need not to worry about it as the inflammatory swelling although may take some more time to resolve but will resolve soon.. You should continue taking your medicine as advised by your dentist and can do warm compresses over the swelling as it will help in resolving at a faster rate.. In case if you get pain or pus discharge from that area which is less of a possibility as you are already taking antibiotics, but in case if it happens then you need to consult a dentist and get evaluated..
As of now you need not to worry as the swelling will resolve soon..
Hope this information helps..

Understanding your concern. As per your query hard spot on cheek after molar extraction could be definitely a bone piece, sharp bone remnant or an out growth called exostosis which usually left over after extraction. Need not to worry about it. I would suggest you to wait for few days and it will resolve its own. Maintain proper oral hygiene. follow all dental instruction. If it does not resolve after one week and visit dentist once and get it examined. Get it trimmed if its minor. If spot is of large size get it examined/ biopsied once to rule out any underlying pathology such as cyst.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
