Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 14 yr old son has a hard spot under his left nipple and the nipple is distended. I know he is going through puberty but he has recently started complaining that his nipple area where that hard spot is at itches and is causing him major discomfort. I have consulted all of my nursing books and have found everything from puberty to cancer. WebMD suggested getting him immediate medical treatment even though he is not showing any signs of heart related problems. He describes his pain as moderate with it being sharp throbbing and sometimes stabbing. Any suggestions?
Gynecomastia (enlarged breasts) may happen in males especially during puberty and most of the time it is not a source of concern. It is due to the quick hormonal changes in puberty and no treatment is needed. On the other hand, it is important to have him checked with a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and make sure all the rest of the examination is normal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
