What Causes A Hearing Test To Low Hearing Level Compared To Another?

I have two hearing tests taken two months apart, Both tests taken by qualified audiologists. Both graphs look almost identical as to the hearing curve across the frequency range. The problem is that one test shows much more hearing loss than the other. In other words the two tests show almost parallel frequency curves, but one shows a much lower hearing level than the other. This holds true for both ears. Both tests cannot possibly be correct. What do I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A difference in the hearing in two different times, especially if the tests were close to one another, may be due to blockages in the ear canals (wax) or fluid behind the eardrums due to a viral infection.
I would advise you to repeat the test in a month after the doctor has ruled out wax or fluid behind the eardrum. If the lines reflect low hearing level then, unfortunately, very likely your hearing may have deteriorated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
