What Causes A Heart Attack?

On Sept. 27, 2017 husband had triple bypass. Recovery excellent. No damage to heart from initial symptoms. Before surgery he had twisted a knee, was going to see orthopedic doc, but got postponed till right after surgery. Post surgery, Orthopedic doc put him on large doses of Aleeve for knee. Husband subsequently had a SECOND heart attack 2 months after bypass surgery. Cardiologist has said NO Aleeve, or steriod shot (he got one day before second heart attack). Not sure how to proceed. Fire orthopedic doc and find one cardiologist likes? Feel like this was stupid recommendation to take the Aleeve. Husband was just ready to resume regaining his pilot s license, he flies for living, and now cardiologist is wavering on IFsue he will ever be allowed to fly. So was this the cause of second heart attack? Can cardiologist tell us that?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The problem of heart attack is because of atherosclerotic plaque formation in coronary arteries superimposed by spasm which is associated in some cases.

The reason for the development of atherosclerosis is hyper cholesterol, hypertension and oxidative stress (can be due to diabetes).

In your case Aleeve drug (Naproxen) is given for knee pain which is NSAIDs. It is not responsible for heart attack.

Lastly, for becoming a pilot, it is not possible to pass physical tests which are compulsory. So, in that case, the decision of cardiologist is final.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
