What Causes A Knot In The Scrotum Which Is Also Painful?

My husband has a knot in his scrotum not on a testicle that is extremely painful and looks to be red and possibly coming to a head but still red. We aren t sure what it is thought maybe a boil or ingrown hair. The knot is on the underside of the scrotum.

Hello
I appreciate your concern
Looking at history this could be a infected sebaceous cyst or folliculitis due to infection in hair follicles

if you can upload me a photograph I will be able to help you better
in my opinion he should consult a general surgeon for examination and a battery of tests like CBC blood sugar

he may require a course of antibiotics under supervision of doctor
tell him to clean it with an antiseptic solution and maintain good hygiene

hope this helps him
best wishes
