What Causes A Large Hard Lump Behind The Ear?
My 20 month old daughter has a very large hard lump behind her right ear. I have been visiting my parents in Wisconsin where she has been bitten by several biting gnats. I woke her up from a nap yesterday before we flew back to Houston and noticed it. It was also red, asked a friend who lives there what he thought it was and he thought it was a spider bite. Would a spider bite be the hard (as a bone)? She also has been having a mild fever up to 100 degrees.

Noted your history about your 20 month old daughter having hard lump behind right ear, had bites.
Since the baby is just 20 month old it is important to see a Pediatric Surgeon preferably for clinical evaluation and examination, investigations.
if this can be due to bite then she needs proper management as small babies can have severe reactions.
Ultrasonography of the area helps to have proper diagnosis like to rule out a lymph node or see for any fluid or pus accumulation so that a proper management is possible.
