General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A tailbone cyst is also called a pilonidal cyst. These cysts are caused most often by an ingrown hair. A hair grows back under the skin or skin grows over a hair. I suggest using an anti inflammatory medication such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain. I also suggest to clean the area with hydrogen peroxide and cove it with Neosporin cream.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
