What Causes A Large Purple Discoloration On The Roof Of The Mouth?

My 7 year old niece has a large purple area on the roof of her mouth. It was biopsies and not malignant. She wore a mouth guard for a month, but the purple area is still there. I know she sucks on hard candy. Could that be causing bruising to the roof of her mouth?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. Large purple discoloration on the roof of the mouth can be due to an allergic reaction, due to injury to a minor salivary gland or its ducts leading to spillage of its contents in the soft tissues, mucous cyst, and burn due to hot food or drink.

I would suggest you to consult oral pathologist/pediatrician once and get evaluated. Varicose vein is as such does not require any treatment if not causing any discomfort as these are harmless. Doctor may prescribe antihistamine along with analgesic. Do warm saline rinses to shrink size.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
