What Causes A Lump Above A Blood Clot On The Lower Leg?
I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my lower leg, admitted in hospital and given warfarin and enoxaparin .Discharged 3 days later ,I have developed a lump above the damaged area of my leg.It feels spongey when i press on it do you think thi clot is moving ?
This most likely is a varicose vein. When you develop a clot in your deep veins in your leg, there is back flow of blood through the superficial venous system in your leg which damages the veins, this results in dialated vessels which can feel tortuous and spongy. To confirm this you will have to visit your doctor and also do another Doppler ultrasound.
It is unlikely that it is another DVT because you are on blood thinner medication already and also a DVT will cause diffuse swelling and not just swelling in a single spot. It is also unlikely that the clot moved because you are on blood thinners. Also the clot is in the deep veins and it is not possible to feel it on the outside.
You will need to see your doctor to reasses your leg and confirm this with his clinical assessment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Felicia Manickam
