What Causes A Lump And Soreness At The Site Of Heart Catherisation?

I had a heart catherization August 19 n after 2 days a large knot appeared a couple inches above where they went in when they did the cath. It was hard and really sore which made it difficult to walk. After 5 days I developed a large sore under the lump which was red and purple. It started seeping a white substance along with cloudy blood drops. it continued to drain for 2 days. Now the area is smaller and not quite as purple and still leaking a little substance. Above that area is a much smaller knot but its not sure .

Hi,

From your description, it seems like a hematoma formed there that probably got secondarily infected(suggested by pain and discharge).

If you have no fever and swelling & pain is coming down, we need not worry now. Just keep the area clean and dry, apply local antibiotics like mupirocin twice daily and take paracetamol if needed for pain relief. If otherwise, kindly see your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
