Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently gave birth to a baby girl, weighing 7lbs, 14oz. During the last few months of pregnancy, my belly button started to poke out and now, almost 3 weeks after the birth, my belly button is sore to the touch with a slight lump above it. Could it be possible I may have given myself a hernia during pregnancy or after the birth? If yes, what an I do to fix the problem, or relieve some of the discomfort?
Yes, it is possible that you now have a hernia as a result of pregnancy or during delivery.
It is possible that it may regress, in the meantime, you can consider the use of ibuprofen or naproxen to help relieve your discomfort. Either of these can be used even if breast feeding, they are safe for the baby.
If the pain persists then you need to see your doctor for an assessment.
I hope this helps
