What Causes A Lump Near The Tailbone?

Hi , I have this Lump on the side of my bum near my tail bone , which is very bruised and inflamed , it is very very sore to sit or even walk due to this pain . I've had it a few days now and it has tend to only get worse . There is no Puss or anything it in , it feels like there's a hole in the middle of it and around it is all hard . Can you please help me? Will I need to go see my doctor or can this be treated at home . Thanks

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that pain in tailbone along with a bump seems to be most probably due to formation of Pilonidal cyst or Pilonidal Abscess and it can occur due to causes like traumatic injury to tailbone area, ingrown hairs, infection in the area etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Proctologist or a General Surgeon and get evaluated and a clinical examination is generally sufficient and if required x ray can also be advised..
In case of Pilonidal abscess you can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and cool compresses over the area..
You can also be advised Incision and Drainage in case of abscess and Marsupialization or Enucleation in case of Cyst..
