Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I hit my forehead on an asphalt outdoor basketball court. It didn t bleed much. I have a large lump just above my eyes. I did not lose consciousness. How can I treat this and keep the swelling down. It looks l a road rash. I m icing it and it seems to be getting bigger. What to do. For now I m in the middle of no where working on a job assignment.
Forehead & scalp has a rich supply of blood, and injury to these areas results in bleeding under the skin (hematoma). Hematomas tend to resolve over time. Occasionally, blow to the head may be severe enough to cause bleeding in the brain. This type of bleeding can cause an intracranial hematoma. Advice 1. Apply ice pack locally. Do not apply pressure as it will hinder natural process of healing 2. Apply Thrombophobe gel (heparing gel) locally every 4 hours for 15 days 3. Take paracetamol 500 mg orally if pain is unbearable 4. Take rest for few days 5. Seek emergency medical help if you experiences: unconsciousness, confusion or disorientation, vomiting, mood changes, memory loss, and persistent headache. I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
