What Causes A Lump On The Forehead Long After An Injury?

Hi, my name is Scarlett. I am 23 years old. When I was 12 years old I was injured by a metal bunk bed. It collapsed and I was pinned by one of the metal bars and a dresser. The metal bar from the bunk bed hit me in my forehead and I was rushed to the emergency room after complaining about feeling dizzy. I got a cat scan that came back negative and was sent home. I have not experienced any pain or physical problems with this ever since, but the incident has left a permanent goose egg on my forehead. It hasn t gone away since that day when I was 12. That was 13 years ago. I am worried that something isn t right and I also have confidence issues as it is visible on my forehead and draws attention. I get asked all the time what happened to your head? Is there something that can be done about this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suggested to get it physically examined by a Surgeon / GP. If it is a tumor, it will need treatment but if it is an Osteoma, it can be removed after taking few blood & Imaging tests.

Sometimes they go away by treating with NSAIDS but not always. Your treating doctor may recommend, removal by a small incision over the bony growth, CT guided drill resection or radiofrequency ablation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
