What Causes A Lump On The Head After An Injury?

I had a bad fall and hit my head over two weeks ago. it came out in a massive lump straight away so I knew there was nothing to worry about but it hasn t gone away. The lump isn t half as big as it was but it s still there. Is this anything to worry about?

Hi there,

If you are otherwise well, there is very little risk of any internal injury. Regarding the lump itself, if it is slowly going down I wouldn't worry as well. Large blood collections, like the lump that you got from the fall, do take some time to get reabsorbed, because the body needs to work on it from the outside in.

However, large blood collections like that can sometimes get infected while it is healing, and you need to get help if the swelling is getting bigger or there are signs of inflammation like increasing soreness, red discolouration, or getting warmer to touch compared to the surrounding skin.

Hope this helps, please let me know if you have further questions.

Regards,
Dr. Teh
